Found Argument: Steve Jobs
My brother and I got into a gigantic argument the other day....probably the worst argument we have had in years, honestly. And do you know what the stem of it was? Steve Jobs, strangely enough. The whole thing came about when the night previous to the argument, I had quoted Steve Jobs saying something about how he had "cracked" the television before he died, much like he had "cracked" the cell phone or mp3 player. The man took both of those things and revolutionized them, in my opinion. However, my younger brother immediately disagreed with this statement and totally dismissed it. He claimed that Steve Jobs had not cracked anything, nor had he revolutionized anything. He claimed that Steve Jobs was just a good business man and knew how to market well. He also claimed to know the recipe in which Steve Jobs used to "crack" the television, as if he already knows what the man had done. Not wishing to argue, I left it at that and the conversation ended. However, with that in mind, as the day of the argument came around, I made a comment as to how my brother had disagreed with me the previous evening and claimed to be the beginning and end of all knowledge and I called him out on it. Thus began the greatest argument of the past few years between my brother and I. It was obviously so much more about Steve Jobs, but the topic is where the argument stemmed from. My brother claimed to know just as much as Steve Jobs and belittled the man, whereas I find his story quite inspiring. I do not think him to be an oracle or a shaman, but I believe he was a brilliant man with brilliant ideas. My brother's main argument was that Steve Jobs did not come up with all of these amazing concepts that Apple has released in the past few years, but that it was the team around him. What he didn't realize it that I did not disagree with this statement, but at the same time, none of those people would have been there without the man. Apple would never be where it is today without Steve Jobs and my brother disagreed with that statement. We never reached a conclusion, as we are both equally stubborn, but rather, we have left the argument behind us in order to get along.
